FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
We often get asked how things work so we have put together some Frequently Asked Questions for you.
What results can I expect from completing the course?
The brain is a complex biological piece of “equipment” and everyone’s brain is structured and works differently so results will vary from client to client. And we are only able to assess the potential of the client once we begin working with them. We aim to at least triple our client’s reading speeds on the three-week version of the course. However on average more than 70% of our clients have been exceeding the 800 word per minute level.
Does the training allow me to read faster on screens, tablets and my phone or does it only work on printed materials?
How our course differs from the majority of the speed reading courses in the market is that we do not train students to read with a finger or visual guide. We train our clients to read faster by processing the text directly from the page or screen you are reading from to your eyes and into your brain and can therefore ‘speed read’ off any printed material, screens, phones or tablets.
Is it possible for me to read faster and still maintain comprehension?
One of the main rules we convey to our clients while they attend the course is that they perform their reading measurement tests with the same or greater level of comprehension as they had when starting the course. Our course is not a skimming, scanning or photoreading course. We train our students to read faster while maintaining comprehension. One of the largest myths that pervades the general belief about speed reading is that the faster you read the lower your comprehension is. We demonstrate to our clients every month that humans can read faster while maintaining or even increasing comprehension. We have documented footage as well of past clients reading significantly faster than the average human while still maintaining the ability to understand and recall what they read.
Do we dedicate time on the course to memory training?
There are sections on the course we allocate to memory theory and development, however the main focus of the course is on the development of your reading capacity. You will find however that through the practice of exercises you learn on the course that your memory will improve as a by-product of performing those exercises.
Can I apply the reading development achieved on the course to reading technical material, complex or academic literature?
On the course we practice exercises and develop your reading capacity using fiction or “less technical” text as to focus the training purely on the development on your reading speed. However through practice you can most definitely apply what we teach on the course to reading technical and academic literature significantly faster than you do presently. You may not be able to read technical material as fast as say you would a novel, but the skill is still transferable to more advanced text.
I cannot attend on a specific day, will it affect my results?
Missing a single training will not have a significant impact on your overall result. Missing two days as well may still lead to a good final result. However missing more than two days of the course can have a significant negative impact on your final result. The first few days of the course are also mandatory. If you cannot attend the earlier sessions or you suspect you may miss multiple classes we suggest waiting for a more suitable time before signing up for the course.
Is age a factor in the reading levels I can achieve on the course?
Age can affect the results achieved due to certain individual factors. However our past students range from 11 years old all the way to 74 years old with all age groups having satisfactory to significant increases in their reading speed. Our course facilitators will be able to advise and assess through an interview and discussion to suggest whether or not age could be a factor on an individual basis.
How old should my child be before they attend the course?
We generally prefer working with students from the age of 12 years old. However we have recently had amazing results with students as young at 11 years old. Students between the ages of 12 and 15 are trained in age group specific training programs with a few slight variations from the standard course. If you are interested in sending your children on the course please send us an email.
Do you cater for clients whose first language is not English?
It is always recommended that you participate in the course using course materials in your mother tongue or your predominant reading and thinking language.
However, we are sourcing course materials in most languages so most people will be able to attend.
You will however need to have a fairly good understanding of the English language as the theory and instructions on the exercises are delivered in English.
If I sign up for the course, what course materials do I need to bring?
We provide you with all the course materials.
If you join the online version of the course, you will need a mic, camera, audio, good lighting and a good internet connection in order to participate.
A notepad and pen for notes is also recommended.
Please contact us to see whether or not we will be able to assist you in your spoken and reading language.
